A Proposal for the Adoption of Optical Scanner Voting
WHEREAS, public confidence in the voting process is extremely important, and,
WHEREAS, the consensus of experts is that it is quite possible to "hack" into an electronic voting system and thereby alter the vote, and
WHEREAS, the 2000 election resulted in the election of the person who did not receive the majority of the votes cast, and
WHEREAS, available, proven technology in the form of optical scanner voting machines would allow not only for a verifiable paper trail for accurate post-election audits but would allow the voter to be sure their vote was properly entered,
RESOLVED, that the Berks County Democratic Committee adopt as a position that it is necessary that we have a verifiable paper trail, and that voting machines used in the Commonwealth be of the type called an optical scanner, and therefore,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be submitted to the Pennsylvania Democratic Committee for adoption to urge the legislature to pass such a law that provides for optical scanning voting machines to be used in Pennsylvania.
Adopted by the Berks County Democratic Committee on December 16, 2006
