Resolution of Support for A Public Health Care Option

Be It Resolved: That the Berks County Democratic Committee recognizes that tens of millions of Americans lack private health insurance while many millions more lack enough health insurance to adequately protect  their families. Such a situation is unacceptable to us as both  Americans and as members of the Democratic Party.

Our private and largely for-profit health care system is the most expensive in the world and is increasingly burdensome to our families, our government, and our economy. But even with such enormous costs, it continues to fail the American people. In order to address these failures, we as Democratic Party members support a strong public health insurance option being included in any health care reform being passed by the United States Congress. Health care reform without such a strong public health insurance option is unlikely to result in the affordable, high-quality health care needed by so many millions of 
Americans.

Be it Resolved: That as Democratic Party Committee-people we urge all Democratic candidates and officeholders to support a strong public health insurance option.
